WHY WE BUILT IT

“I Wanted to Be a Better Teacher and a Better Play Caller.”

For thirteen years, I coached across nearly every part of the game as a head coach, offensive coordinator, defensive coordinator, offensive-line coach, and run-game coordinator. Those roles shaped two things I wanted to improve: how I taught players and how I understood an opponent.

As a teacher, I wanted players to watch their own film and account for every rep using our staff’s standards. I wanted coaches to spend the effort that went into grading entry on feedback and instruction. If that work happened before we met, we could walk into the room ready for a deeper teaching conversation.

As a play caller, I wanted to understand what the opponent was doing quickly enough to inform my next call. I wanted our staff’s observations organized into situational tendencies, with the associated film available to inspect between series or at halftime.

My background in software engineering gave me a way to build toward both. Drawing on my master’s degree and work as a software developer, I turned those coaching needs into Snap!Grade and TurboScout.

Both products depend on people doing meaningful work together. Players account for their reps. Coaches review and teach. Staff members chart observations in parallel. The dashboards and film views make that collective work available to the people who need it.

Your staff defines the grading standards. Players apply them to their own practice and game reps, recording their observations alongside the film. Coaches can approve or disapprove entries, leave feedback, edit records, and add grades themselves. Moving entry to players gives the staff a concrete starting point for instruction: what each player believes happened on the rep. The purpose is greater player accountability and a stronger feedback loop before the next meeting. Coaches spend their time differently, on the player.

Staff chart in parallel to build a shared picture of the opponent, with dedicated views for the OC, DC, and head coach.

TurboScout organizes staff observations into situational opponent tendencies. Offensive coordinators can inspect how the defense has responded; defensive coordinators can inspect how the offense has attacked. Head coaches can review the broader game picture, including stats and possessions. Charting begins with people observing football, so the data does not have to wait for film. When film is attached, coaches can inspect the associated plays between series, at halftime, or during review.
